Why I will probably never relocate back to Eastern Europe?

Romania like many fundamentally broken and corrupt countries is facing the rise of the masses and exodus. There is the call to a diaspora living abroad to come back and fix the wicked ways of the People and their democratically elected representatives. An almost sartrian call for the Other to save them.

In the past two-three years we had public protests, resistance, followed by an immediate reversion to the status quo. The same party and ideology is pushed to the population, the majority wins the vote, the younger generation lose every time. There is more than a political swing in the making, an intergenerational conflict that the society manages very poorly.

Facts, transparency and general knowledge on the management of public affairs are not distributed evenly. Nor is there a willingness to understand such processes.

The majority of the electorate is formed of working people, with limited education and unable to comprehend the complexity of the policies proposed, most importantly the impact such policies have on every day life.

Even political advisors fail to have that 20:20 view of the future, with the majority left simply blinded by popular gossip, local celebrities and other nonsensical things to keep then from actually thinking.
